The best house in the world?
A futuristic house in Mallorca could be judged to be the best house in the world this year. With seemingly acres of glass dominating the steel, concrete and stone structure, the house is dramatically perched on a topographically challenging hillside in Andratx with breathtaking views of the sea and mountains.
Designed by Gras Architects the house's name, Where Eagles Dare, is inspired by its connectivity to the land, sea and sky, all of which can be seen in spadefuls through the enormous glass windows that all the bedrooms and living area have. It's also designed to be environmentally friendly with water collection points and cantilevers to protect the house from the sun and reduce electricity consumption on air conditioning.
It's one of the 13 buildings worldwide nominated to take part in the Villa del World Architecture Festival (WAF) taking place in Berlin this November. Wouldn't that be a coup for Mallorca if it was the location of the world's best house?
Could you see yourself living in it? I'd give it a good shot.
