Coast of Mallorca Illustrated

An exhibition of 'modern' art

Palma's Es Baluard museum and art space has just commenced a brilliant new exhibition of artwork that we can all relate to. Called 'The Coast of Mallorca, interpreted by our illustrators,' it's a modern, up-to-the-minute look at – you've guessed it – Mallorca's magnificent coastline in all its rugged glory.

The island's coast has been the subject for artists for many, many years and some really famous ones have put pencil and brush to paper and canvas; Hermen Anglada-Camarasa and Joaquín Sorolla to name but two. Also in that number was Austrian Erwin Hubert, whose works for the Archduke Ludwig Salvator's tome on the Balearic Islands showing idyllic landscapes were reproduced on postcards and posters for the Mallorca Tourist Board.

Now, right up-to-date, a group of artists of the 'Comic Cluster and New Media in Mallorca' have applied their talents a coffee table book illustrating Mallorca's coast. The book was released last year but now the original drawings and paintings are on display in much larger format in Es Baluard.

They really are a joy to behold and well worth a visit to Es Baluard to see them. The book itself will be on sale – if you're lucky you may get one of the signed copies – and will make an ideal present or souvenir from Mallorca. IBM you can't get there, the video made to promote the book, will give you a good idea what you're missing.
