Something for the weekend
It's the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness in Mallorca and time for the locals to celebrate with a series of Autumn fairs across the island. Let's start in Muro which is inextricably linked with pumpkin production in Mallorca and whose Autumn extravaganza features everything pumpkin from making lanterns and parading about with them to eating them.
It starts on the 10th November when there's a tapas route from 21:00 complete with mini train stopping at all the bars. On the 11th there's a lantern making class, wine tasting, fireworks, a lantern parade, a pumpkin food festival and live music. On the 12th there's yet more feasting in the local bars to close the fair.
In Capdella in Calvia on the 11th and 12th you'll find farm animals, a food fest in all the bars, a giant BBQ evening with traditional music, and an intriguingly named chocolatada which possibly features lots of lovely chocolate.
Pollensa's 34th Fair takes place in the centre of the town from the 10th to 13th November and starts off with a bang on the Friday night with a great big beer festival, live bands and food trucks. The artisan fair itself takes place in the Santo Domingo cloister – a lovely place – with various other events in the town centre.
Perhaps the most charming celebration takes place in the old market town of Sineu which is holding it's Nit de Llums – night of lights – when the street lights in the old town centre are switched off and only the lanterns of the people and stars illuminate the ancient walls around the church and small main square. The lights go out at 20:00 on the 11th and this is the one I'd most like to see, what about you?
