No work on 1st March!
We'll be putting the flags out quite literally this week in the Balearics as we celebrate the four islands; Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera constituting an autonomous community and province of Spain. Yes!!!! we all get a day off work on 1st March and if this wasn't reason enough to be happy, there are also lots of activities and entertainment put on by the authorities to mark this sacred day.
Pretty well every little town and village has something going on, but needless to say, Mallorca's capital Palma has the biggest events, many of them with more than just a local 'Catalan' emphasis. If you're on holiday in Mallorca on Thursday then you'll be interested to know that all train travel on the day is completely free, no tickets are required to go anywhere you please, so make the most of the opportunity.
Here in the capital, the celebrations extend beyond the main day and kick off, as we know, with Peccata Minuta on the 28th February in the HQ of Bodegas Saua and there's also a concert of Blues, Jazz and Swing by the Bluesmafia Big Band in the Sa Feixina park at 21:00.
I've picked out some of the best of the rest for an international audience, so here it is:-
12:00, 16:30 and 18:00 Menorcan horses and the return of King Jaime I and his Knights in front of the city walls between the Lonja and Es Baluard.
18:00 Concert by the Menorca Chamber Orchestra in the Principal Theatre.
19:30 Funk and folk concert with the Lemon Emigrants and Leonmanso in the Paseo del Borne
