Hotel Convent d'Ariany

An accessible hotel

Looking for a small, well run hotel where you can enjoy peace, tranquillity, total relaxation with really good service and food? Well, the Convent d'Ariany gives you all this and more as it is specifically designed with disabled people in mind and is almost 100% 'disabled friendly.'

In the tiny town of Ariany in the heart of the Mallorcan plain, the hotel started life as a convent for Franciscan nuns and when no longer required for religious purposes, the nuns decided to carry on their work in the community by converting the building into a 'social project' hotel.

Not only was the conversion made so that all the common areas of the hotel and 9 of its 11 rooms are easily accessible for disabled people, but also a number of disabled people are employed by the hotel as staff! As you'll see, there are a lot of long flat surfaces throughout, along with specially adapted bathrooms with grab rails and extra wide showers and a chair lift into the pool with a view.

The rooms, more like apartments actually, are very modern and have all the mod cons you'd expect these days and some that perhaps you wouldn't – the super log burners look perfect for chilly winter nights overlooking the plain. You can prepare your own meals if you wish but why bother when the hotel has a very well regarded restaurant of its own with a beautiful terrace overlooking the lush agricultural land surrounding it.

Ariany is a picturesque little place with the odd shop and bar, but within a few minutes' striking distance of Petra, Sineu and Santa Margalida for markets and more facilities. One of my favourite beaches, the almost unspoiled Son Serra de Marina is a 25 minute car ride away and if you want a resort, Can Picafort is about the same distance.

The other nice thing about the place is that it is very economically priced. A couple of nights in November would cost my wife and I a mere €116, add a not unreasonable €9.50 each for breakfast on the terrace and €22 for dinner in the restaurant (plus a bit extra for wine and beer!)

I can certainly see myself getting away from it all here for a few days and if you'd like to, you can book online by clicking this link – Hotel Convent d'Ariany.
