Classical music in a beautiful setting
Coming up soon is the 6th annual edition of a fantastic series of concerts - Formentor Sunset Classics – which surprise, surprise is classical music at sunset in the Hotel Formentor in Puerto de Pollensa.
It's been a tremendously successful exercise, well attended and has given us an opportunity to see some of the best classical artists in the world, both musicians and singers, perform in Mallorca. And I when I say best, I really mean best - Daniel Barenboim and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa – two name just two of the past performers!
So here's what the hotel have got lined up for our classical enjoyment this year (and next);
26 May – The Tango Revolution with violinist Leticia Moreno and the Project new Tango Quintet with the 30 strong Formentor Chamber Orchestra playing tango and works by Bach, Vivaldi, Bartok, Ginastera and Piazzolla.
1 Sept – Opera Gala with Anna Netrebko (photo) recently declared best soprano of the 21st century, and Yusif Eyvazov singing well known duets and arias accompanied by the Balearic Symphony Orchestra.
22 March 2019 – Lang Lang, the Chinese piano virtuoso who is so good they named him twice, makes his appearance with the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, the house band at the Royal Theatre, playing Beethoven and others.
Apart from the main concerts, there are another couple which are featured under the 'Chamber Cycle,' and these are;
27 July – The VibrArt Trio, piano, cello and violin play Dvorak, Schubert, Brahms, and Ginastera.
10 August - Isabel Villanueva on the viola and pianist François Dumont interpret works by Massenet, Franck, Ravel and others.
You can buy tickets online if you'd like to experience this wonderful occasion for yourself and as you can imagine ticket prices are not cheap – from €100 to €600 at the moment – but still a lot cheaper than the €950 I was quoted for the Madrid derby a couple of weeks ago at the Bernabeu!
