Four days of Jazz (and gin)
Monday 30th April is the worldwide International Day of Jazz and its theme this year is just a little bit Cuban as 2018 marks the centenary of the birth of Bebo Valdes, the Cuban pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader in the golden age of that island's music.
Here in Mallorca we're not content with just a day of the music, and it is a Monday after all, so we kick off the programme of concerts, talks and cinema much earlier and with the music starting on Friday 27th April. The nice thing about this, apart from more music for us, is that there are various venues in different parts of the island and it's all for FREE.
You can see the venues and bands on our photo atop the page but I'll fill in a couple of details for you, particularly the Gin and Jazz section of the programme which takes place in the following bars;
Baiben at Puerto Portals, Brass Club at Paseo de Mallorca 34, Palma, Chapeau 1987 at Paseo de Mallorca 24, Palma, Bar Nicolas at Plaza del Mercado, Palma and Ginbo at Paseo de Mallorca 14a, Palma. You can enjoy a refreshing snifter whilst enjoying some cool music in relaxed surroundings on these nights.
The Friday Gospel concert in Inca's Santa Maria church is not to be missed with a massed choir of 60 singers and a Jazz trio and on Monday Cuban lady percussionist Nailé Sosa gives a masterclass in all things drumming in a tribute concert to Bebo Valdes. Here she is with local sax combo Saxophobia.
