High end food on the beach
Palma's newest beach club has just opened and promises to focus not only the industry standard of relaxing loungers, high end cocktails and chilled beach life, but also an excellent standard of gastronomy. A meal here will cost around €40 to €60 per person plus drinks but for that you can enjoy specialities like a seafood platter on ice or a refreshing Peruvian speciality – so vogue – scallop and tiger milk ceviche with hummus.
Called Assaona, which means to season in Mallorquin, this rather stylish Gastrobeach club, is situated at the end of Palma's Can Pere Antoni beach where it meets Portitxol harbour. It was formerly the Nassau beach bar and has undergone a carefully thought out transformation to give it a cool and relaxing feel both inside and out.
The décor consists of totally natural products, all from Mallorca, with the wood, rope and palm leaves giving a neutral feel to it which strongly contrasts with the brilliant blue hues of sea and sky above and beyond. What a great place to sit by day watching the sea breezes or at night gazing at the sunset and the twinkling lights of the cityscape.
Not only does Assaona look totally natural, but it is also totally self supporting with all its power provided by the wind and the sun! In fact it even has enough to spare as there are a couple of spaces to charge electric cars at the club!
Open daily from 9 until 1 the following day, it looks to become one of the city's most popular gastrohaunts under the guidance of its manager Cesar Soto who brings with him experience in top restaurant Tristan and the luxury hotels of Son Net, Son Vida and Mardavall.
It's so new there aren't any reviews on TA and I haven't seen it myself, but the impression I get just from the photos makes me think that it will be a winner! Let us know your opinion if you go.
