Matsuhisa at Fontsanta
One of the top Japanese chefs in Spain is paying a flying visit to Mallorca to delight us with his lovingly prepared fusion of traditional Japanese food with first class Mediterranean ingredients. Hideki Matsuhisa, whose flagship Koy Shunka restaurant in Barcelona has two Repsol suns and a Michelin star will be at the Fontsanta Hotel in Campos on 2nd July.
Widely regarded as the Japanese equivalent of Ferran Adrià, Matsuhisa has plied his trade in Spain since 1997 and now has a total of four restaurants here and won his coveted Michelin star in 2013.
The dinner at Fontsanta will cost €110 per person and consists of an absolutely delicious tasting menu and a maridaje of specially selected wines and beers to ensure that the food tastes superb. As I said the dishes feature many local ingredients like lobster, red prawns, Mahon cheese, tomatoes, and citrus. Tuna also looms large on the menu, which is no surprise since much of the tuna caught on its run up the Med is exported to Japan because of its superb quality!
It sounds like a fabulous evening – call the hotel on +34 971 655 0 16 to make a reservation.
You may even fancy making a real occasion of it by booking in for a few nights at the hotel itself which is close to the salt pans of Salinas and the beautiful Es Trenc beach. It has a Spa, lovely quiet pool and is 'restfully' styled with the bonus of being adults only. I'd certainly give it a try.
