Accessible beach and sea
Well done to Alcudia for becoming the first beach resort in the Balearic Islands to install specialised equipment for the disabled and those with limited mobility to use both the beach and sea comparatively easily. Under the strapline 'Alcudia for All' the council's programme of accessibility has benefitted to the tune of €12,000's worth of specialist equipment on the beach.
Just recently a whole phalanx of council officials and members of the beach security and lifeguards were on hand for the official unveiling of the equipment; two cranes and an 'amphibuggy' which ensure a smooth transfer of person from wheelchair to buggy to sea.
This is just one part of a wider programme to make not only the beach, but also the whole of Alcudia more easily accessible to all – both locals and tourists alike. With the help of private companies in the area, the council is trying to remove all architectural barriers so that we can all enjoy the facilities of the borough freely.
What a step in the right direction!
