Bodega Macia Batle
There's a big wine fair on in Madrid this week which showcases the best wines in the entire country. The 19th Salon of the Best Wines in Spain will be attended by all the big hitters from the most well known wine regions like Rioja and Ribera del Duero and alongside them will be six wines from here in Mallorca.
The Macia Batle Bodega has had 6 of its wines selected to attend the fair, courtesy of the recently published good wine guide, Guia Peñin 2018. The guide awards points for each different facet of a bottle of wine and the wines which scored 90 or more points out of 100 get to attend the Salon.
Macia Batle's 6 ninety pointers are three red and three white, which are by name and grape;
MACIÀ BATLE 1856 - mantonegro, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah and callet.
MACIA BATLE BLANC DE BLANCS DOLÇ - 100% premsal blanc.
MARGALIDA LLOMPART BLANC DE BLANCS - premsal blanc y chardonnay.
MACIÀ BATLE NEGRE DOLÇ - 100% mantonegro.
BLANC DE BLANCS LLUM - premsal blanc and chardonnay.
P. DE MARIA - mantonegro, syrah, cabernet sauvignon y merlot.
The bodega uses a mix of traditional Mallorcan grapes along with international ones to produce its excellent wines and it's a great tribute to them that no less than six have been selected as amongst the best in all Spain. They've been producing wine since 1856, as per the bottle in our photo and here's what they say about it;
1856 Vi de la Terra 2014 (12 months in cask)
Mantonegro, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah
COLOUR: Intense cherry with tiled reflections. Bright appearance.
AROMA: Ripe red fruits, spices (clove and pepper). Balsamic aromas, vanilla and pleasant roasted notes.
TASTE: Powerful in the mouth, tasty, with an intense mouth aroma. Soft tannins well integrated with wood.
if you are lucky enough to be in Mallorca, you can pay a visit to the Bodega, but if not you can find a list of Macia Batle's distributors in your country on the Official Website.
