Jazz over Mallorca
Fans of Jazz like me will know by now that Mallorca has many local Jazz festivals throughout the year – Jazz Voyeur, Sa Pobla, Banyalbufar, Smooth Jazz – whose concerts all take place in their own localities.
Thanks to the multicultural association Alternatilla which promotes the arts, music, cinema and so on at the cutting edge of the spectrum, there's a Jazz festival taking place island wide this month and next.
This year, as well as giving the opportunity for local musicians to perform in the festival, Alternatilla will feature a selection of Jazz combos and artists from Poland who are at the forefront of the Jazz scene in that country.
So, without further ado, here's who you can see, when and where, all with a 20:30 start;
22, Teatro Principal, Palma – Marcin Wasilewski Trio
23, Teatro Municipal, Muro – Irene Reig Views Quintet
24, Fabrica Ramis, Inca – Reig, Szymon, Cuenca and Moll
25, Sa Nostra Cultural Centre – Szymon Mika Trio
29, Casa del Poble, Esporles – Toni Vaquer Sextet
30, Teatro Xesc Forteza, Palma – Kinga Glyk Trio (photo)
01, Auditori, Porreres – Glyk, Derlak, Navarro and Mari
02, Sa Congregacio, Sa Pobla – Aga Derlak Trio
05, Esglesia del Convent, Pollensa – Pere Navarro Quintet
06, Teatro Xesc Forteza, Palma – Antonio Serrano Quartet
07, Espai 36, Sant Llorenc – Serrano, Torres, Bujosa and Terol
08, Esglesia de Sant Bonaventura, Llucmajor – Myrczek and Tomaszewski
Entrance is from only €10 and can be bought online by clicking this link – Alternatilla Tickets.
As you can see from the names on the bill, there's quite a lot of cross pollination going on with musicians from the different countries joining each other on stage. It can only be good for the future of the music and for us, the audience, that the different nationalities are working together and not being poles apart.
Sorry, couldn't resist – I'll get my coat!
See you at one or two of the concerts?
