Wines from 53 Bodegas
This weekend sees the return of the annual Pollensa Wine Fair – the 16th – which aims to promote the delicious wines of Mallorca. Held as usual in the beautiful cloisters of the Santo Domingo convent in the centre of town, the fair will feature the wines of 35 Mallorcan bodegas using grapes from all over the world and some which are native just to Mallorca.
It's a popular event with around 4,000 attendees, both public and professionals, and takes place on Saturday 11th May from 10:00 to 20:30 and Sunday 12th, from 10:00 to 14:00. It costs €10 to enter, and this gets you a wine pack which includes; your tasting glass, €3 towards wine, a booklet containing all the details of the bodegas and their wines, a pencil to take notes (or write down the name of the hotel you're staying in in case you get lost!)
New for this year is the 'twinning' of the Pollensa and Falset wine fairs in which both areas wish to gain some mutual benefit from an interchange of wines and idea. Falset is a small wine producing area near Tarragona which produces Priorat and Montsant wines, and there'll be a few samples from the area's 18 bodegas in attendance on offer in Pollensa this weekend.
If you fancy going to the Pollensa fair, remember that the ticket office closes an hour before closing time, so get there early would be my advice.
