Cool music, cool venue
I haven't featured one of my favourite music venues for a good while now, but I have the perfect excuse as one of Mallorca's best soul groove bands will be playing live at the Blue Jazz Club next Saturday evening.
On the top floor of the Hotel Saratoga, the Blue Jazz Club provides a sophisticated atmosphere, good food and drink, splendid views of the Palma skyline and a stage full of some of the best musicians from Mallorca and beyond.
Saturday 29th June sees the Palma Groove Project take to the stage. Fronted by Sheela Gathright, a New Yorker, soul singer and co-founder of the band with multi-instrumentalist Orlando Lund, a Londoner and veteran of that city's acid jazz scene, they play “a dynamic & uplifting brew of soul, groove, melody & funk with great lyrics. PGP's tight, accessible sound blends modern cool with honest oldskool funk instrumentation. Music with a wonderful vibe and great message.”
Starting at 11 pm, the show is a great way to end a Saturday evening, or if you're in the mood, to start it, as the band really do groove in a mellow way as you can see from the video. There's no entry fee to the Blue Jazz Club, but drinks cost a bit more than average there, but it's well worth it!
