Mallorca Live five
Growing every year, the open air homage to Indie music on the island – Mallorca Live Festival – will be back next year, bigger and better than ever. The dates for next year's shindig to be held at the usual venue, Calvia's Aquapark, have already been announced.
Put Friday 15th and Saturday 16th May in your diary and if you really want to go, form an orderly queue on Monday22nd July at the online doors of See Tickets where early bird entrance to the festy can be bought for as little as €50 for the weekend!
It's way too early to be talking about who'll be appearing in 2020 though each year both the calibre of the artists and the facilities available to festy goers (no rain ponchos and wellies required) seems to improve.
Last May's bash was headlined by top popster Jamiroquai when a record 33,500 folks attended over the two days, and with these bigger income streams come better facilities for the bands and the audience in 2020!
Next year the area for the festival will be doubled to 16,000 square metres, there'll be more and better stages, more bars and toilets, and the gastro-area known as 'The Town' for food, purchases and experiences will also be bigger and better.
So far so good, but the festival also aims to promote a commitment to sustainability with selective waste collection, reusable cups, compostable kitchenware, efficient energy consumption, promotion of collective transport and so on.
Though not my cup of tea, I'm all for events like this as a promotion tool for the island of Mallorca and its tourist industry. To survive Mallorca needs to attract new, young tourists every year who will return again and again in the future as adults with more disposable income and children of their own.
When we have some news of the 2020 artists, we'll publish it.
