Versus Real Madrid
The eyes of the world will be on Mallorca on Saturday night as dozens of countries will be showing the match between RCD Mallorca and Real Madrid at 21:00 CET. This right Real match-up is a sell out and will also be attended by around 200 accredited journalists from all around the world to cover it, double the normal number.
Obviously the intense interest in this match is mainly because real Madrid, one of the best, wealthiest and best supported teams in the world are in town. Currently in pole position in the Spanish 1st Division with 18 points, they sit 17 places above Mallorca in 18th with just 7 points!
With a capacity of just 23,000, and over 16,000 of these seats already purchased by season ticket holders, it's no surprise that every available seat was snapped up in no time – despite prices ranging from €80 to €290 – by people eager to see the game.
This is the third time this season that the 'no vacancies' sign has been hung on the Son Moix stadium window as despite Mallorca's unimpressive form two other matches have been sell outs – against Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid, the latter being played on a Wednesday night.
So, if you want to see the Red Team take on the White Team, you'll have to find a bar somewhere with a TV (shouldn't be difficult) or perhaps pay over the odds for a ticket.
And the odds of Mallorca winning? Well, boss Vicente Moreno says, “They can be beaten; other teams have done it.” And player Aleix Febas added “There is still three points at stake, but if you play with fear you don’t get anywhere. There is a need to play with respect and humility but remain confident in our possibilities.”
Come on the Reds!
