Villa Garau, Alcudia
To villa, or not to villa? That is the question. A villa holiday is a bit like Marmite; you either like them or you don't. If you love a hotel holiday where your food is laid on, the kids are taken care of, and you can chat to your very close sun lounger neighbour all day and then again during the nightly entertainment then you may not want a villa holiday.
If however, the freedom to eat when and what you want, be with your friends and family around your private and uncrowded pool, and the chance to relax like a local is your idea of a great holiday, then a villa break is an economical way of achieving your dream.
There's a vast range of villas available all over Mallorca, from old fincas in the middle of the countryside, to more modern open plan holiday homes with all mod cons. I stuck a pin in our list of villas and came up with this one, Villa Garau in Alcudia.
It's a modern villa, situated on a street of similar houses in an upmarket area of Alcudia. Being on a street with neighbours offers more security but precludes noisy parties and events being held there.
As you can see on the photos, it's light, airy, open plan, double height lounge and mezzanine floor, acres of glass, super modern kitchen, and terraces and pool with a view, and what a view.
Can you see yourself lounging by the pool – just add a few pink flamingo inflatables – enjoying the long sunny days, preparing the BBQ for a balmy evening meal or strolling down to one of Puerto de Alcudia's many restaurants? The great thing about stress free holidays like this is that even going to the local shops for your sunshine breakfast is an absolute pleasure.
The Villa Garau has 4 bedrooms which accommodate 8 people in complete comfort and at an unbelievably economic price. Six nights here in early May will set 8 people back €2073, which is an incredible €43 per night per person.
